Plastic Waste Exhibition

Location: Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh Looking at The Ocean Cleanup foundation, the aim is to create a temporary exhibition for them which tackles and represents the world issue of plastic pollution in an educational, informative and entertaining way, targeted and accessible for all. EXPERIENCE what it’s like to be the plastic in our oceans. The inspiration for this exhibition is the area the Great Pacific garbage patch, formed due to the currents surrounding that area. This concept is seen by creating ‘current’ instillation which take visitors through them and pushes them out into the centre area which imitates the garbage patch. The ‘Garbage Patch’ is an area surrounded by white fabric panels which imitate a net and the globe in the centre is covered in recycled plastic bottles which are filled with coloured liquid and a light attached which creates a coloured water reflection.

First current installation

EDUCATE
The first current instillation educates the visitor about The Ocean Cleanup through  pictures and graphic elements taken from the organisation’s website.

Second current installation

EXPERIENCE
The second current provides a fully interactive experience where the visitor experiences what it’s like to be surrounded by a large amount of ocean plastic, but in the form of ropes/yarn which are made of 100% ocean plastic.

Third current installation

THE SOLUTION
The last current instillation focuses on one of The Ocean Cleanup’s solution to plastic pollution to transform caught plastic into sunglasses. Therefore this instillation will inform visitors of this process, as well as interacts with them by encouraging to place their plastic wastes in a container where they will be given a discount for their own pair of sunglasses which they will have the option to design themselves.
